Drake released a new music video for his song “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” this week. He’s playing a classic PSP in it. But it’s more than just a PSP.this is real gold– One of the cannonballs that until recently belonged to Pharrell Williams ( Kotaku).
A custom PSP-1000 sold for around $20,000 on Pharrell’s Joopiter auction site in November. The case is made of 14-carat solid gold weighing 659.7 grams, according to the listing, and was personally ordered by a NERD member in 2008 to complement his gold BlackBerry. I tweeted about selling my other possessions (including my gold blackberry). set yourself free “At the dawn of a new era.”
The end of Pharrell’s era is clearly the beginning of a new one for Drake, and Drake is seen in the music video showing off old Pharrell jewelry and chains and playing a gold PSP while leaning against a red Ferrari Enzo. It’s not clear if Drake purchased these items (which presumably included a $2 million-plus car) for himself or if he just rented them for the video, but he certainly treasured them. He seems to be enjoying himself as
You can’t see the PSP itself powered up in the video, but the auction said nothing about its capabilities other than being in used condition. shows signs of use,” the listing reads. It also comes with its own Goyard PSP carrying case.
I believe Drake has polished the PSP for video, but with any luck the hardware remains in good shape. According to his PSP enthusiast on Reddit, common problems that can occur with the PSP-1000 include loose UMD doors, read errors, and stick drift. Hopefully Drake knows a good game repair shop in his hometown just in case, or maybe he can customize his PSP further by adding a new his IPS screen and modding it with an emulator (PSP Vita is even better).
In terms of craftsmanship, Pharrell’s PSP doesn’t look as cleanly finished as the gold Nintendo Wii intended for the late Queen Elizabeth. It also doesn’t look as sleek as his Analogue Nt NES system in over-the-top limited-edition 24-carat. Nonetheless, it’s still a gold PSP, and its joystick hump still looks like it’s in good enough condition to keep playing.
