Going to the farmer’s market for flowers or meeting friends at a fancy restaurant without pants on can be the premise of many people’s worst nightmares. But thanks to the Jenner sisters’ enduring influence and her TikTok trends, ditching the pants and opting for sheer tights is the latest trend to poke a needle into the “less is more” adage, thanks to her cycle luck. am.
So why are fashion-it girls like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner ditching their pants in favor of sheer tights?
The look went mainstream at Bottega Venetta’s Spring 2023 ready-to-wear show in September. The runway model casually wore a knit sweater, sheer black tights, and a pair of slingback heels to the catwalk.
While launching a model down the runway, it looks undressed, but the influence of the model and 818 founder Kendall Jenner has brought that look all over For You Pages (FYP). I was.
Jenner was spotted rocking the exact same look during a photo shoot in Los Angeles in November.
Not to be outdone, sister Kylie Jenner wore a similar version of the look during Paris Fashion Week at Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2023 fashion show in September.
The Jenner sisters’ penchant for virality, combined with their relentless quest for the next big thing on TikTok, has created a medley of users with their own take on the pantsless trend.
“When I saw Kendall’s first work, I was like, ‘Wow,'” Stephanie Koutskos, a 27-year-old content creator and fan of the body-baring trend, told Yahoo Life. . “I was like, ‘Oh, this looks kind of cool,’ so I thought I’d try it at tonight’s event.”
Koutsoukos, who lives in New York and has nearly 25,000 followers on TikTok, opted for a Fendi swimsuit, oversized blazer and chunky black heels. Her January Styling Her video has garnered over 4 million views and her over 500,000 likes.
Risky looks of this caliber aren’t typical of Koutsoukos’ style, but she hoped the daring ensemble would bring her creativity back to life.
“I’m definitely more into the classic pieces, but I was kind of in a rut, so I decided to branch out a bit and give this one a try,” she says.
And she works in the content creation space, so the bold looks are a given.
“People said I looked great, [I was at] influencer event. And I feel like, at least in New York, people go all out in their outfits at these events,” she explains.
As expected, she got a few strange stares from people while taking pictures before heading out for the night.
“When I was filming [photos] At Grand Central Station, we got some stares—no one said anything, but people certainly stared,” says Koutsoukos.
Still, Koutsoukos plans different ways to style the look.
“For balance, I might wear all black and then an oversized tan blazer, but I’d do it all over again,” she says. “I was very confident.”
As the trend gains momentum, others keep trying it out and showing it off on social media. Sandra Damien wanted to put her own spin on the barely there setup, but wasn’t sure if it would work for her body type.
“I’ve never seen someone with a curvaceous body like mine try it,” says California-based content creator Damian. Everyone who watches has a very particular look, and I don’t quite fit that look.”
Damian shared the look on TikTok and asked, “Are you fit or just skinny?”
Damian ultimately liked the trend with the right styling, but in terms of wearability, she says it’s a hard pass.
“Would you wear it again? Probably not. I understand that it’s attractive to some people because it’s different from the baggy clothes you’re wearing these days. But is it practical? Not for me,” she says.
It’s one thing when a trend catches on on TikTok, but the jury is still on whether it will catch up with the general public.
Who What Wear’s fashion editor Sierra Mayhew says it likely serves as a starting point for similar but less racy looks.
Mayhew told Yahoo Life: “I think people will start wearing shorter skirts and tights, and this trend is a more dramatic way of doing that.”
Still, I don’t think it’s popular with people other than celebrities and influencers.
“When you go out to the regular, everyday consumer, it’s something that inspires them to wear tights and micro miniskirts or Daisy Duke shorts,” Mayhew says.
