really want to enter I’m fine here
Exciting I have my debut solo album – radio song – Available January 23rd.
My current music collection has a lot of Others were piled on top. I just moved my studio and the place is still messy.
and a little 78’s Christmas Music. I bought a cute 1960’s gramophone a few years ago and use it to play Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra tunes on Christmas morning.
Preferred format I listen to most of my music on Spotify these days. I often listen to music while working, so I value convenience. I still crave something like a cassette that picks up where it left off.
5 albums you can’t live without:
1
Spirit of Edentalk talk
My favorite album of all time. Or rather, this alone seems to be enough. It was pure emotion, pure loveliness and is still the gold standard in technical music recording. A song has space to breathe and time to develop. Upon release, the band was sued by EMI, a label that claimed the album was not “commercially satisfactory”. The case was ridiculed out of court.
2
talkie walkieair
In many ways this is a perfect pop record. A killer song, a masterpiece, and a genre-defying production. Air never had enough chart success to make it to the top.
3
ok computerRadiohead
It may not be an amazing choice, but in my opinion one of the best albums ever made. With all the different formats and reissues, I lost track of how many times I bought it. Like a wise and reliable friend, the record has always been there for me.
Four
Ex Machina (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)Ben Salisbury & Jeff Barrow
Ben and Jeff pioneered new ways to combine electronics and acoustic instruments to create truly jarring and haunting sounds. If the score sounds a little less innovative in 2023, it’s because everyone uses their own techniques these days.
Also check out Colin Stetson, who electronically processed his saxophone to write the entire film score.
Five
Eleniafloating point
It’s beautiful, complex, and groundbreaking. Seven years after its release, it still sounds completely fresh in the fast-moving world of electronic music.
