Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor today responded to a growing trend calling for boycotts of films and cancellation of culture.
Speaking at an event in Kolkata, the actor said: Hoga (What about entertainment without movies?)
Her remarks came amid a call to boycott Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming release ‘Pathaan’ with songs from the film. The controversial song “Besharam Rang” shows actor Deepika Padukone in an orange costume resembling saffron, which is sacred in Hinduism, according to critics.
The campaign against the film follows a similar one for Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chadda’, in which Kareena Kapoor also played a key role. After Aamir Khan’s 2015 interview resurfaced, some on social media called for a boycott of the film.
Kareena Kapoor also noted the boycott trend at the time, saying, “It is true that this film should not be boycotted. It is a very beautiful film and I would like to see me and Aamir (Khan) on screen. We’ve been waiting a long time.So please don’t boycott this movie. It’s like boycotting a good movie, actually.
Over the past few years, there has been a growing trend to boycott Bollywood movies for trivial reasons. Last year, big-ticket releases like Brahmastra and Raksha Bandhan were affected by online boycott campaigns.
