Angela Bassett is a supportive mother no matter what her children decide to do with their lives.
of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever The star, 64, opened up to PEOPLE about her two children — fraternal twins Bronwyn Golden Vance and Slater Josiah Vance, 16 — at Saturday’s BAFTA Tea Party 2023 in Hollywood. What happens when you see them follow your footsteps?
“They want to chase success, but they don’t have a clue right now, whether it’s acting or not,” Bassett said of their interests. “It’s a little music, a little sport.” But whatever they want, I support them.”

Bassett, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Film at Tuesday’s Golden Globe Awards, added that she celebrated the win with her children. Bassett has already had her one Golden Globe nomination throughout her career, in 1993, What’s Love Got To Do It.
“I actually went home and hugged my kids,” she told PEOPLE of her post-winning celebration.
Bassett’s latest career milestone was filmed after Chadwick Boseman’s shocking 2020 death and came months after wowing audiences with her performance as Queen Ramonda in the released Marvel sequel. For the award, the actress played against Kelly Condon (Inishelin’s Banshee), Jamie Lee Curtis (All at once, anywhere), Dolly De Leon (sorrow triangle) and Carey Mulligan (she said).

During a speech at the event, Bassett shared that she and her castmates are “surrounded every day in the light and spirit of Chadwick Boseman,” paying tribute to the deceased star.
“We are delighted to know that with this historic black panther It’s part of his legacy that he guided us through,” Bassett said. [looks like] Behind, behind and in front of the camera. ”
“Thank you, Marvel fans, for hugging this character and showing so much love,” she continued. “We just made history with this nomination and this award. It belongs to all of us.” am.”

At the BAFTA Tea Party, Bassett elaborated on what the moment meant to her, sharing that it “absolutely” means more because of Boseman.
“It’s more than a movie you play, a role you take on,” Bassett says. Yes, he has been exhibited and was involved in the making of the film.

They may not be actors yet, but both teens showed their passion for music when Slater released his first album. Journey 2 Forever, in 2021.The following year he shared an EP titled cordial.
