Lightning McQueen’s rusty sidekick, Mater, helps Red Racer understand the importance of friendship. Pixar animators designed Meter as his truck for his 1951 International Harvester Boom. The meter’s design was also inspired by a truck one of his writers found while driving on historic Route 66 in Galena, Kansas.
As such, the Mater has unique features such as dual exhaust pipes and custom rims not found on other tow trucks. But no one knows the inspiration behind his bucktoothed smile and excellent storytelling skills.
