Flume has won the top spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100, Australia’s largest music poll, for his track Say Nothing, a collaboration with Sydney artist Maya Cumming.

Sydney-raised music producer aka Harley Streeten topped the countdown in 2016 with her hit “Never Be Like You.” In 2020 he came third with his collaboration The Difference with Toro y Moi and in 2019 he came second with Rushing Back. Say Nothing is his one of three of Streten’s tracks featured in Countdown, which aired on Triple J on Saturday.

Flume edged out London act Eliza Rose for first place. Rose instead on her track Her BOTA (Baddest Of Them All) she came in second. , which eventually topped the UK charts and reached number four on the Australian aria charts. Just starting to put out her own music in 2022, her longtime DJ Rose has finally signed her breakthrough hits to a major label.

Fremantle indie rock quartet Spacey Jane scored No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 tracks on their album “Here Comes Everyone,” while American singer-songwriter Steve Lacy ranked No. 4 with “Bad Habit.” ranked in.

Flume’s brooding electronic track triumph is a big change from last year’s poll. In last year’s poll, Australian children’s performers The Wiggles caused controversy with their whimsical cover of Tame Impala’s track Elephant.

Locals Ball Park Music hit No. 8 with Stars in My Eyes, while Triple J favorites Gang of Youth reached No. 9 with In the Wake of Your Leave. Other big winners in this year’s poll include British record producer Fred Again, who put four of his tracks on the countdown.

A total of 57 songs were by Australian artists on this year’s countdown. Sydney rock band Lime Her Cordial has four songs in this year’s poll, Ocean Alley has three of her songs, and Thelma Plum and Genesis Owusu both have two of her songs. Legendary hip-hop act Hilltop his hoods has included two of his songs on this year’s countdown, bringing the total number of tracks included in the 100 hottest of his career to 23.

The Hottest 100 wasn’t the only countdown going on today. On Twitter, the account @OzKitsch provided comical relief with the Coldest 100, a look back at Australia’s most interesting musical moments. This year’s list included former Prime Minister Scott Morrison who sang April Sun in Cuba in 60 Minutes, while also highlighting the importance of Australia’s environmental protection and wildlife from weeds.

In news that reflects the changes in how we consume music, this year’s Hottest 100 top tracks will not be released on physical compilations. Triple J has concluded its long-running CD release, which has been issued annually since 1994, after last year’s countdown, he confirmed in March.

On Friday, Triple J aired the Hottest 200, revealing the songs ranked 200th to 101st in this year’s poll. British rapper Dave made it to number 101 on his single Starlight.
