FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have an important decision to make regarding quarterback Dak Prescott.
I’ll try to explain here that some of these decisions are about how to massage Prescott’s contract going forward.
And here I am trying to explain that some of these decisions are about how to make Prescott a better player.
And… I tried to explain here (with Packers’ Aaron Rodgers as the guinea pig), but logically, none of these decisions have anything to do with the trade or the Prescott cut.
Despite this, misunderstandings abound, as does the lure of rumormongers…so former Pro Bowl QB and media personality Boomer Isiason ponders Dallas’ move…
Tom Brady.
Esiason is trying to bring Brady’s ideas to life through his radio show, Boomer & Gio. “Tom Brady is a free agent. It’s possible…can you imagine Jerry Jones and Tom Brady?”
At one point in the conversation, Esiason mentions a dead-money penalty that financially dissuades Dak from dumping. That’s good for Boomer…that’s it.
There are still media people pushing agendas that aren’t “non-dealable”, and they are technically correct – because there are no non-dealable contracts. His new team will cost about $30 million base salary.
More precisely, using round numbers, Dallas would have eaten $60 million in dead money plus a new QB to pay (Rogers’ guarantee for 2023 is $59 million. Brady is a free agent and previously planned The Bucks cap hit was $35 million). 2023). …which means the Cowboys will “pay for the QB position” in 2023, about $100 million.
I wouldn’t say it’s “irresponsible” to fill up radio talk show time with this gunk. Rather, it points out that it could be considered “irresponsible” for the Cowboys to actually do something like this.
