Body camera footage surrounding Tyre Nichols’ death was released Friday.
This footage shows a Jan. 7 confrontation during a traffic stop between Nichols, 29, and five police officers from Memphis, Tennessee.
During a traffic stop, Nichols was severely beaten by police and died three days later. At least two of the officers are expected to plead not guilty, according to MSNBC.
Many have spoken out about the situation, including President Biden. The president said Friday that his “heart goes out to Tyre Nichols’ family” and called for “peaceful protest.”
“Like many people, I was outraged and deeply heartbroken when I saw the horrific video of the beating that led to Tyre Nichols’ death. Another painful reminder of fear and trauma, pain and exhaustion, my heart goes out to Tyre Nichols’ family and the American people who are grieving this tremendously painful loss in Memphis and across the country. The footage is rightfully outraged. Those who seek justice should never resort to violence and destruction.Violence is never acceptable. It is illegal and destructive.I am the family of Mr. Nichols. We call for peaceful protest together,” the president’s statement said.
Some have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the dire situation.
The video of Tyre Nichols’ murder brings pain, terror, and terror. I grieve for him and his family. Those responsible must face justice.
It doesn’t stop here. I will never stop working to pass police reform and build the coalition needed to end this.

Tyre Nichols should be alive. Yes, the police officers who brutally murdered him must be held accountable. But even their belief in the strongest possible accusations can’t get the tires back. We must do everything in our power to end police violence against people of color.
