“Magic Mike’s Last Dance”
If you like Channing Tatum’s signature snake-hip charm (check out how he hilariously stole “The Lost City” earlier this year), don’t miss male entertainer Steven Soderbergh’s final movie. You don’t want to (don’t call them strippers). ) Trilogy, Tatum’s Mike trying to train a new group of dancers for the final hurrah.(10 Feb)
Costume drama alert! Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays Joseph Bologne, a real-life black composer who rose to unlikely heights in 18th-century French society, including his relationship with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton). Directed by Steven Williams, known for television works such as “Lost” and “Watchmen”. (April 7)
Isn’t Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, What to Do in the Shadows, Reservation Dog) good at sports comedy? It follows the American Samoan soccer team, known as the worst soccer team in the world after their 31-0 defeat in FIFA. (April 21)
“Is there a God? Margaret.”
I grew up with this Judy Bloom book. maybe you did too? It’s finally made into a movie, featuring Abby Ryder Fortson (Kathy from the “Ant-Man” movies) as Margaret, Rachel McAdams as her mother, and Kathy Bates as Granny Sylvia. (April 28)
Is there anything else I should say besides this title? And what about Helen Mirren and Rita Moreno starring in this one? The franchise always promises fast cars, slow dialogue, and fun. (May 19th)
Halle Bailey stars in the live-action adaptation of the beloved Disney animated musical, playing some pretty swell supporting characters like Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, David Diggs and Awkwafina. (May 26)
“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”
Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) returns in the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s acclaimed animated adventure Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Yes, the title is a little boring, but the movie should be smooth. (June 2)
“Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1”
Speaking of cleverness, here’s the latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ installment. It had to be split into two parts because of the obvious plot and Tom Cruise trying to kill himself. The usual suspects — Cruise, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby — are all on hand. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie. (July 14th)
OK, I frowned at this too, but this is written and directed by Greta Gerwig (“Little Women,” “Lady Bird”), so there’s definitely room for doubt. Yes, this is a movie based on the life of a famous fashion doll, played by Margot Robbie and starring Ryan Gosling as Ken. we will see! (July 21st)
Christopher Nolan will direct a biopic of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb.” Cillian Murphy plays the lead role. Also featuring Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman and Rami Malek. (July 21st)
Nia DaCosta (“Candyman”) will direct the sequel to 2019’s “Captain Marvel” alongside Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Verrani and Samuel L. Jackson. And I’m looking forward to the triumphant return of Goose the Cat. (July 28th)
“The Haunting of Venice”
Kenneth Branagh returns as Detective Hercules Poirot in Agatha Christie’s third Agatha Christie film, set in post-WWII Venice and starring Kelly Reilly, Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey and Jamie Dornan. (September 15th)
Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, returns with a sci-fi love story featuring John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney and Ken Watanabe. (October 6)
We know the last Dune feels like it was just a few weeks ago, but nevertheless there is a sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve and featuring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Javier Bardem. . (November 3)
“Chicken Run: Dawn of Nuggets”
Thank you, Universe, for recognizing that it’s been a rough few years and that we need a new “Chicken Run” movie from Aardman Animation’s stop-motion wizards. Starring David Fowler, Imelda Staunton, and Bella Ramsey. (November 10th)
Need another Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie? Apparently yes! It stars Timothée Chalamet as a young Willy Wonka, with supporting characters including Sally Hawkins, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, and Rowan Atkinson (December 15).
