Based on that insight alone, we can expect the series to follow the video game sequence. The epic finale ends with Joel successfully bringing Ellie to Firefly and discovering a plan to extract a mutant strain from her brain to create a vaccine for her. With a fatherly bond, Joel leaves a bloody (!) trail to rescue Ellie.
