MINOT, ND (KMOT) – ‘The Weekend Song’ is one of many songs Risha Allen wrote as an outlet for her students’ creativity.
“She sings well and her favorite store is the Boot Barn,” said third grader Alyssa Drain.
Risha started writing music in fourth grade.
“I haven’t written anything yet, but I’m planning on writing one,” said third-grader Logan Russell.
A second-grade music teacher said that as a child, she experienced a lot of frustration while learning to play the piano. She said she had great teachers, but it took her a while to click, and now she’s taking the opportunity to teach music the way she wanted.
“It’s okay if you don’t know. Back up and learn again. You’ll learn these five or six different ways,” Allen said.
She posted some of them on TikTok.
Bite-sized educational hacks and recording passions in the classroom started small at first, allowing friends and family to watch the videos.
Currently, TikTok has over 200,000 followers. Her fifth grader at Roosevelt Elementary School said she was amazed.
“I didn’t expect her to be this famous. You know what I mean?” said fifth grader Aiden Laducer.
Risha said her followers mainly consist of teachers, parents, principals and students.
One of her students said that Miss Allen bases her songs on the ideas of the entire class.
5th grader Juliauna Zahn-Guess said:
Risha is happy to have made the decision to switch to music after teaching English for 13 years.
“I love teaching English and it’s been a great career, but this is a dream career for me,” said Allen
Risha continues to write her own songs and plans to release another single soon.
