For the third year, Tiny Desk Concerts has partnered with globalFEST to host a thrilling online music festival. Tiny Desk meets globalFEST.
Hosted by Angélique Kidjo, the series reflects the spirit of globalFEST’s flagship live event, but is centered within the framework of the Tiny Desk concert series. This collaboration presents exclusive video performances shot by nine artists in their hometowns, on the move, and in exile around the world. There will be three nights of concerts, each featuring her three bands, on consecutive nights beginning at 8:00 PM ET on Tuesday, January 24. The globalFEST team has written the following biographical information for each performer.
Taraf de Cariu, Romania
After over 30 years of constant touring around the world, the founding members of Taraf de Haïdouks have reunited for a new project, Taraf de Caliu. Musicians from Kurellani, Romania, are the last generation of the ‘Rautari’, carrying on the authentic traditional music of southern Romania which he defined as one of the world’s best gypsy bands. Under the guidance of Kaliu, Taraf’s iconic violinist, they set out on their journey again.

Noura Mint Seymali, Mauritania
Noura Mint Seymali is one of Mauritania’s leading artists on the international stage. Drawing on the timeless repertoire of Moore’s griots, a genetic class of music poets and historians, her band fused traditional Mauritanian instruments within an electrified psychedelic rock band, a hypnotic It evokes a full-fledged sandstorm of jutsu grooves. Extending sounds born from her Arab and sub-Saharan roots, her Noura Mint Seymali bends the arc of Moorish musical traditions to fit the contemporary moment.

Justin Adams & Mauro Durante, UK/Italy
Justin Adams and Mauro Durante have released their award-winning debut album. still moving, In 2021, we move from gentle minimalism to wild catharsis. Adams (producer of Tinariwen’s breakout album and guitarist for Robert Plant) plays with a post-punk guitar approach reinforced by a passion for Arabic music and African trance blues, while Durante is a popular violinist and percussionist. It is the leader of Southern Italy’s critically acclaimed canzonere. Grecanico he Salentino who performed his song with the iconic taranta and pizzica dance at his globalFEST in 2012.
