Each year, when the new semester begins, many Boston College students arrive on campus with their newly purchased clothing and accessories, ready to show off their latest outfits.
This year is no exception. The BC student tackled the chilly northeastern weather by incorporating elements of warmth and protection into his outfit combined with today’s online his trends to create the perfect combination of comfort and style. Here are five of the biggest fashion trends to watch throughout the spring semester.
Earmuffs & AirPods Max
Beanies are a must-have item that has warmed many college students’ heads during snowy winters, but we’ve found that more and more students are replacing their beanies for protection that focuses solely on their ears. Fleece hats serve as a hair-safe alternative to fleece hats, which often provide warmth at the expense of static-induced frizz.
Similarly, many BC students have returned to campus with the latest version of Apple AirPods, returning to the original style of large headband headphones revered in the late 2000s and early 2010s. While it’s more expensive (starting at $549), the new AirPods Max offer new levels of comfort, functionality and style, allowing BC students to travel from Linden Lane to Iceland ice spice to Bad his bunny. You can blow anything up to low.
Neutral crew neck and cable knit sweater
One trend that seems to have survived the New Year is the old money aesthetic. During the Gossip Girl revival (Rest in Peace), classic, understated styles of clothing are gaining national popularity as teens and young adults seek to imitate the style of the Northeast’s elite.
These days, passers-by on campus can spot students in Nike crewnecks and cable-knit sweaters. It is commonly worn in cool tones such as light grey, navy blue and beige. This quintessential look is elevated with a turtleneck underneath or a collared button-down for added preppyness.
leather & fur
No matter where you go these days, it seems you can’t escape leather products, be they faux leather or genuine leather. From his classic lace-up Dr. Martens to his brown leather puffer his coat, leather permeates nearly every wardrobe, whether you realize it or not.
Similarly, many students’ winter coats are lined with fur, regardless of brand. Fur-lined long black parkas from Canada Goose, Zara and Macy’s seem to be a staple on campus.
flared jeans & leggings
Flared pants have taken over the country as an alternative to the long-loved skinny jeans as the ’70s trend continues to gain momentum into 2023. Mom-and-boyfriend jeans are still alive and well in college fashion, but flared pants add a vintage twist. It’s the most basic costume and I’m here for it.
leg warmers & tights
With the resurgence of vintage wear, the leg warmer resurgence is in full swing in 2023. Once considered an embarrassing relic of her teenage years by her parents, legwarmers have made a comeback in modern fashion with refinements by teen and young adult creators. About what is called “ballet core”.
Ballet Core reintroduced both tights and leg warmers into feminine everyday wear, in a style that romanticized the calm and relaxed nature of a ballerina’s typical rehearsal outfit. Often paired with a mini skirt. So, legwarmers and tights combinations have entered the closets of both ballet core enthusiasts and those who want to style them in their own way.
