Casting for Ridley Scott’s upcoming ‘Gladiator’ sequel is reportedly underway.
The filmmakers are working on a follow-up to the 2000 epic that starred Russell Crowe as Roman ex-general Maximus seeking revenge after being forced into slavery, and a new report from Pacnews says the film’s boss is It suggests that they are looking for a cast for the lead role.
Scott previously admitted that the script was complete, but he was trying to find time in his busy schedule to move forward with the project.
Last month, it was suggested that the new film would follow the story of Lucius, the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s tyrannical character Commodus, who was saved by Maximus in the first film.
Connie Nielsen, who played Lucius’ mother Lucilla, is said to be returning with Djimon Hounsou, who played Juba, who is kidnapped from her home by slave traders.
In 2021, Scott claimed that a ‘Gladiator’ sequel would be next on his list as soon as he finished work on ‘Napoleon’.
Scott told Empire magazine: [the next] “Gladiator” is currently being written. So once we have Napoleon, we’re ready for Gladiator.”
The filmmaker previously confessed that he didn’t really do much research before shooting the original film. I said “nothing”. I looked at some pictures and thought, “Let’s make this work.” The biggest investment I ever made in my career was going to a very good art school. And it fed me my whole life.”I never went to film school. So I look at some pictures and transform here. And that’s how I work.”
