Bengaluru: After 4 years, 1 month and 2 days, Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is back on the big screen with the blockbuster ‘Pattern’. Needless to say, this long wait paid off when King Khan hit the screen. The film, which also stars Bangalore girls Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, is in full swing heading into the long weekend.
The movie was action packed. SRK has really delivered on what he promised in terms of entertainment. I didn’t have any expectations from the plot and if you’re watching Pathaan’s story, chances are you’re going for the wrong reasons. I’m not a Salman fan, but honestly these two represent the Bollywood I grew up with. Nice to see you on screen together.

We prepaid admission for nearly 5 million people in the first long weekend to open Pathaan. This was his first SRK movie released here at 6am. I see a tendency to watch this movie in premium format. This is an encouraging response to an entertainment experience outside the home.

On day one, I booked my tickets a month in advance at Abhinaya Theater in Chicpet for the first show. I also made a cutout of his SRK that is 54 feet tall in the theater. No one was sitting when he appeared on screen. The hustle and bustle of the theater was a testament to his unconditional love for him. I don’t think anyone listened to the dialogue. I also went to the matinee show with my family.

What happened to social media these days adds to the complexity. What Deepika Padukone did with patterns is not unusual. Rather, it has been practiced since the time of Satyam Sivan Sundaram (1978). Today, people are arguing over movies, not because there is so much objection to what they say, but because of their five seconds of fame. The best way to get that fame is by hitting movie stars.

I’m a die-hard SRK fan and didn’t want to miss him on the big screen. I wanted to see it on day one before people started leaking spoilers.I’m a hands-on mom, but I’ve turned over the responsibilities of her toddler to her husband so I can watch late-night shows. I wouldn’t have done this for anyone else. As SRK once said…’Itni shidaat se tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai… (When you want something really bad – things go well)
