In a short teaser for the interview, published Jan. 2, Harry told Cooper that the royal family’s famous motto, ‘Don’t complain, don’t explain,’ was ‘just a motto,’ and that he’s the one who wants to live his life. When I tried to keep silent about him, people working at the palace leaked stories about him.
“There are a lot of complaints and explanations…through leaks,” Cooper says, which Harry confirms.
The Prince went on to claim that news stories, attributed solely to sources, often resulted in reporters contacting Buckingham Palace for comment and not receiving a response. Still, he and Markle say they were told the palace could not make a statement in support of them.

Harry, born in 1984, was considered a “spare”, meaning he would succeed to the throne if something happened to his brother. While William has three children of his own, Harry is the heir to the throne. has been relegated to the ranks of the British throne and is unlikely to succeed to the British throne.
