PPB patrolling the entertainment district
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — For the first time in years since the COVID pandemic began, Portland’s Old Town entertainment district is ready to welcome the new year.
There’s been a certain amount of commotion on New Year’s Eve this year, and the Portland Police Department will have officers stationed in the area to ensure everyone’s safety.
One of them — closed to traffic.
“Hopefully we’ll see the old town road closures that we usually see and hopefully see police officers there to urge everyone to stay safe,” said PPB Sgt. Kevin Allen told KOIN 6 News.
Due to staffing issues, the PPB said it was unable to hire additional patrol officers in time for the holiday. However, details of their entertainment district will be released, along with uniformed police officers.
Officials are happy to see people returning to pre-pandemic levels of fun, but drugs are often part of the party. He said it depends on the person.
