Tupelo, Michigan (WCBI) – Known for his community involvement, civil rights advocacy, and work in higher education, the Tupelo pastor is also known for his personal style.
Whether at the pulpit or in the chapel at Virginia Union University, Dr. Richard Price is always stylish.
Dr. Price came to North Green Street Christ Church as Senior Pastor seven years ago and was recently appointed Dean of the Chapel at VUU, an HBCU in Richmond, Virginia.
I have been interested in fashion since I was working at a tailor-made suit company in New York during my graduate school days. His interest never wavered, and a few years ago he reunited with the factory for his custom suit business.
Today he designs and bespoke suits, waistcoats, shirts and hats.
“People look at what you wear and when the factory says you can keep going, it became my passion and my therapy. Some people find something to do with and play golf with.
Dr. Price can also help others get custom shirts and suits, but he doesn’t consider the “Richard Price Collection” a business. Instead, he sees it as a way of remembering the seasons of his life.
“When I look at the clothes I wear, it embodies the journey, and for me, God allowed me to wear suits, my days in New York, and before I got married. It was a way of celebrating the young days of my life.It’s really a celebration of life’s journey,” he said.
Price said that while fashion allows people to express their individualism, it also has boundaries and often uses those boundaries as an educational tool for young people.
“One of my favorite biblical ethics is that I am not mine. This is God’s temple and I must offer myself as a living sacrifice.” The thing is, sometimes I want to wear something like this, but it just isn’t the right thing for the occasion. I want to make sure that they are doing it, and we youngsters hear that a lot.
Dr. Price said that wherever he traveled, he looked forward to preaching, teaching, and showing how a person’s fashion sense can be directed to the God who made it all possible.
Dr. Price participates in all social media platforms and is always ready to support other men’s fashion needs.
