Gucci has appointed a new creative director, Sabato de Sarno, after months of speculation about who would fill the biggest job opening in the fashion industry. De Sarno, 39, is an industry veteran. He joined Gucci from Valentino and most recently oversaw men’s and women’s ready-to-wear.

I am sure it will be strengthened. ”
De Sarno succeeds Alessandro Michele, who defined the menswear era during his eight years at Gucci. He introduced a poppy graphic palette and genderless styling to great commercial success. Michele and Gucci parted abruptly in November after growth slowed for the marquee Italian brand. Originally from Naples, De Sarno started his career at Prada before joining Dolce & Gabbana. He has worked closely with Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino for the past 12 years. De Sarno’s first Gucci runway collection will be presented during Milan Fashion Week in September. In a statement, De Sarno said: “I am very honored to accept the role of Creative Director of Gucci.
