Niecy Nash Betts’ hard work has paid off!
At the 2023 Critics Choice Awards held on Sunday, Nash-Betts won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Film Made for TV in a Netflix production. Dahmer – Monsters: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
She defeated Claire Danes (fleischmann is in trouble), Dominic Fishback (The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray), Betty Gilpin (gas slit), Melanie Lynskey (Rain) and Juno Temple (offer) prizes.
Taking the stage at Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel to accept an award, Nash Betts joked that his mother didn’t believe in his dramatic acting abilities.
“When I decided to become an actor, I saw myself doing drama. The industry was kind, but they said, ‘Stay in comedy lane,'” she explained. “Sometimes people want to leave you where they met you. And I did what I always do. I cry.”
“So I said to my mom, ‘Mommy, don’t you think I’m a dramatic actress?’ ‘And she said, ‘Girl, I don’t.'”
Nash Betts continued, “She said, ‘But you can! You find the best class in this town and I work overtime to pay for it. Only one!”
From there, Nash Betts went on to thank those who have supported her along the way, including his wife, Jessica Betts. Dahmer colleague.
“Thank you, Jessica. Thank you, Netflix. Baby, you picked me up when I was exhausted from all this work,” she continued. Sharing this award with Glenda Cleveland, we will be seen in full on this night.”
“And finally, to everyone who doubted this black woman and told me what I couldn’t do, I want to humbly say, ‘In your face! ”
Nash-Betts played Glenda Cleveland in the Netflix limited series that premiered in September 2022. Cleveland was the real-life neighbor of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
To date, Dahmer has broken several Netflix viewing records, including over 1 billion hours watched in just 60 days on the streaming service.
