— Jennifer Lopez, the queen of romantic comedies, returns to the genre she knows best with “Shotgun Wedding.” It premiered on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, January 27. Lopez co-stars with Josh Duhamel as a couple whose wedding party at a Philippine beach resort goes awry when her wedding party is taken hostage.For Lopez, who she married Ben Affleck last year It’s the second wedding-themed rom last year, following 2022’s “Marry Me,” at a drive-thru chapel in Las Vegas. At least, this one features “White Lotus” star Jennifer Coolidge (it’s now a Hollywood law that she must star in every story in an exotic location).
— “Dark” creators Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill co-wrote “You People.” A new Netflix comedy about the culture clash of an interracial Los Angeles couple and their families. Lauren London and Hill star as a couple, with Eddie Murphy and Nia Long playing their Muslim parents, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny playing their Jewish parents. Directed by Barris, the film will stream on Friday, January 27th.

— Singer-songwriter Sam Smith releases Gloria, an album the singer-songwriter calls “coming of age.” Early singles include the very sexy arena his pop “Unholy”. “Love Me More,” an intimate, self-affirming ballad featuring Kim Petras, has the lyrics, “Every day I try not to hate myself/But these days it doesn’t hurt like it used to.” is attached. Smith recorded the album in Jamaica, Los Angeles and London. It was great to be able to sing freely again with this album. Oddly enough, it feels like my first record. And it feels like it’s coming of age. ”
— Honor one of music’s greatest voices, Roberta Flack, in the feature-length documentary “Roberta,” which airs Tuesday as part of PBS’s “American Masters” series. The film “explores the depth and complexity of her lyrical and thematic choices, as well as the sophisticated mix of classical and soul that has influenced her style”. On the 50th anniversary of the release of her seminal fourth album, Killing Me Softly, there is a new children’s book, The Green Piano: How Little Me Found Music, that tells her musical beginnings.

— Fox’s new series The Accused It has an interesting premise. Each episode features a new cast, including someone on trial for a crime. The series explains what happened from the defendant’s perspective, leading to the outcome of the trial. Cast members include Michael Chiklis, Jill Hennessy and Malcolm Jamal Warner. Howard Gordon, who produced “24” and “Homeland,” will serve as executive producer. ‘Accused’, which debuts on Sunday 22nd January, is based on the BBC show of the same name.
— ‘Knives Out’ and ‘Glass Onion’ writer and director Rian Johnson discusses his new show ‘Poker Face’. Starring Natasha Lyonne, as ‘how did it’ rather than ‘who did it’. Lyon plays Charlie, a wise and friendly drifter who has an uncanny ability to instantly know when someone is lying. Charlie escapes from the casino gang and meets new people while doing odd jobs. She also often finds herself in the front row of a mystery, activating her inner lie detector when she suspects someone is not telling the truth. If the critics are right, “Poker Face” could be Peacock’s first hit. His first three episodes will air on Mondays, and the rest of Season 1 will air one each week.
