The hills may be chilly, but as the annual Ozark Mountain Music Festival returns to Eureka Springs for four days of fun, January 19-22, Basin Park Hotel’s historic rooms are filled with music. It’s warm.

In addition to the Barefoot Ballroom’s main stage, the hotel’s cave and atrium rooms share the stage with a variety of local and national musicians. There are also after-hours shows throughout downtown Eureka Springs. For those who can’t spend all four days, there will be a local evening on January 19th, and for daytime audiences, the Eagle Rock Gospel singer will sing sacred songs in the Barefoot Ballroom at noon on January 22nd. and share a mix of secular songs. Patti Steele is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter from Northwest Arkansas and Artist at Large of the Year. She performs as part of a duo. Other locals include Ashtyn Barbaree, Front Porch, Eureka Strings, Danny Spain Gang and “Icky” Ichniowski.

OzMoMu Festival headliner Lindsay Lou is the daughter of a miner and the granddaughter of a Rainbow Gathering healer. The Nashville-based headliner was all set to become a doctor, but her first love for singing ultimately won out. She comes from a large musical family, “My mom is one of her 12 and I have over 90 cousins at his point,” she said. increase. There was always family jam.

“There were different stages in the family band,” she says of her early days as a musician. She said, “It touched on something special about playing music with other people and singing with other people. was part of the environment of

“But my trajectory started in college when I started playing in a band called Flat Bellies in Michigan. We started touring all over the world. Really, all over the world. I’ve made some records with Sweetwater Warblers, another outfit that started in Michigan.

Lou says he also came to Michigan with guitarist Billy Strings. The two recorded a stripped down version of “Freedom”, the final track on their 2019 album Home.

“I really feel like I’m singing in the kitchen, and he’s played on some tracks on the record we’re releasing next year,” she adds. “Billy is his longtime friend.”

Along with the new album, Lou says he’s finding a healthy life-work schedule.

“I think I have a good balance between spending time at home and spending time on tour. The pandemic has allowed me to put the brakes on for a moment. Take a step back and think about what is important and what is healthy. I was able to,” she says. “Since things have turned around again, I’ve been busy, but not like I used to. I used to spin the wheels more than I needed to. Now I’m playing the right amount. Just I will take home a good amount.”

For OzMoMu, the multi-instrumentalist says he’s not sure yet if he’ll join the jam session.

“Bandmates Anthony Tu Costa and Alex Vice join us. We’ve been playing together for a while and they played on my last record so it’s going to be a trio. I started playing bass. Lindsay Lu will be on electric bass, Anthony on electric guitar (and possibly acoustic), and Alex Vice on drums.”
