James Corden decided to quit ‘The Late Late Show’ after an interaction with his son.
The 44-year-old star had an emotional conversation with his then-10-year-old son Max, reflecting on two summers ago when he was working on Amazon Prime Video’s show Mammals, which launched in November.
Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, he said, “I was filming on Sunday and I came downstairs. Around 6 a.m. my son, who was 10 at the time, was sitting on the steps and he said Are you working today?” I said, “I’m working.” He said, “Well, I thought it was Sunday.”
“And I said, ‘I know buddy, but this schedule is all over the place. We have very little time before we have to go back and do the show, so we have to get it done.’
“And his face was kind of depressed. I got in the car, called my wife, Jules, and said, ‘I realize, in the best-case scenario, we have six more summers and Max is far away. Even though you want to be around us” I can’t waste another.
“So the choice really was, ‘If we really want to do this other job, it can’t come at the expense of our kids and our families.’ That’s really what it’s all about.”
A father of 3 children, 8-year-old Carrie, 5-year-old Charlotte, and Jules as his ‘final destination’.
He continued: , and it feels absolutely right in every way. ”
