In his first interview since the news broke, Saffron said VFs Breaking down the reboot danger, whether he thinks it or not gossip girl With another streaming home found, what was in store for his Upper East Sider in Season 3?
vanity fair: I’m sorry for causing you trouble gossip girlcancellation. I loved this season.
Josh Saffron: everyone is. it’s difficult. All I get is constant feedback of how great people feel. So rough.
How do you perceive the news? How are you handling this?
Unfortunately, in a way it was expected given what’s been happening with all streamers these days. That golden age is coming to an end.
Also, this show is incredibly expensive. “It costs a lot of money to make it look this good.” [laughs]And it really had to get House of the Dragon numbers and Last of Us It’s a number and there’s no show like gossip girl Get those numbers.I mean, who even knows what someone’s numbers are? I know a show just like that gossip girl not going to get House of the Dragon Also Last of Us numbers.
it was like gossip girl It resonated with core viewers. We’re already seeing people on social media get really upset about the cancellation. What do you think of HBO Max’s decision to cancel? gossip girl Associated with Warner Bros. A recent merger with Discovery?
I’m sure this particular network is experiencing a lot of cancellations, [also] All networks, all streamers. In a hurry to introduce themselves, they spent money. This is great for us. I appreciate it very much. That’s why we’re seeing a wave of cancellations and liabilities accruing over time. Sure, I’m sure the merger has something to do with it, but it’s very costly for us. Even if there was no merger, who knows? I don’t know the numbers, I can’t speak to that. I know people love this season. I feel love. On social media, I’m sure I’ll get more reaction than any show I’ve ever been on.
All we can do is make a great show. We are really proud of this season. I’m proud of season 1 too, but the saddest thing about what’s happening on the market these days is that the whole point of television is to create characters and worlds that can grow and deepen as they progress. It’s becoming less and less likely on most shows, and it sucks.
Have you talked to the cast and crew?
Yes, of course. Honestly, if this is the end, the silver lining to all of this, I believe, is that we rise to the heights. No one goes through a “how much longer can we do the same thing” kind of thing in Season 5 or 6. Oddly enough, we all love each other. we love working together. It was a great experience. Therefore, there is no sadness, unhappiness, or negative memories. So not only did we go out feeling really great, we had the best time of our lives in Rome.
Did you say Rome?
Yes in Rome. We just finished filming the season in Rome. So it ended up in the best place you could be: gorgeous and charming Rome with everyone.
We talked about how the world took a while to catch up to the new. gossip girll. What do you think about the ending of this version? gossip girl compared to the original gossip girl, It had six seasons, but ended in a somewhat strange way?
