Saibabad police on Monday arrested a small Bollywood actor and his wife on suspicion of scamming people out of huge sums of money on the pretext of giving them roles in promotional ads.
Those arrested were identified as Apurva Ashwin aka Armaan Arjun Kapoor and his wife Natasha Kapoor aka Nazish Memon.
According to police reports, they cheated the couple out of Rs 14.12 lakh by promising to offer their daughter a role in a promotional advertisement for a biscuit company.
The victim’s family met Memon at a shopping mall in Kondapur in December, where she introduced herself as a representative of a modeling agency. She asked if the couple would be interested in her daughter’s model role in a TV ad.
Memon persuaded them by saying that she would choose her children for modeling in television advertisements and for promotional photo shoots for various brands. I told them it would.
The scammer puts on a lamp show at the mall and convinces the couple that their daughter has been selected to shoot an advertisement for a large biscuit company.
Police said the couple were initially asked to return a security deposit of Rs 3.25 lakh. We then collected another Rs 10.87 from them under the guise of a photo shoot.
A couple of scammers used Whatsapp and a well-maintained website to contact their targets and ask them to transfer money to Rajasthan-based traders’ accounts.
Police seized from him Rs 15.6 crore, a laptop and four mobile phones. Apurva was arrested by Mumbai police in a similar case. Cyberbad Police have registered four cases of him against him.
