One fan, @kayleeewarddd, shared a TikTok video of the first scene in the series, explaining:
“They literally showed us from the beginning who Gossip Girl was, but none of us understood.”
In the video, we can see Serena (Blake Lively), who has just returned to New York, and Kristen Bell narrates, “Why did she leave? Why did she come back? Send me. And who am I?”
The camera pans to Dan typing behind his laptop.

Another TikToker asserted that the scene was a big clue to Gossip Girl’s identity, with one commenting: “Also, when I talk about Gossip Girl, I’m is always wondering if Dan knew that information on the show at that moment…he usually does!!!”

Joshua Safran, the show’s executive producer, explained in a chat at Vulture Festival via BuzzFeed:
“We were like, ‘We’ve got to scratch it.’ Nate never sent any information through all these episodes.
“I was leaving the show by then, so I like to joke that Dan was Gossip Girl. But I understand why Dan was Gossip Girl. I just set my heart on Nate.” was there.”
