LOWVILLE — The Lowville Village Band will host their annual Christmas concert on Sunday at 2pm.
The free event is held in the Rowville Academy High School auditorium and features a variety of Christmas classics.
The historic group was formed in 1826 and is reportedly the longest-running community band in the country.
We are a group of volunteers trying to bring the spirit of Christmas to our community.
According to the band’s Facebook page, the volunteer musicians are “music educators…musicians from local high schools, music educators, veteran musicians and music lovers” and range in age from 13 to over 80.
Through the support of village taxpayers and donations raised at concerts, the group performs throughout the summer at the village Veterans Memorial Park, at the Lewis County Fair, and more.
The Christmas concert was originally scheduled for December 18th, but was postponed after a snowstorm made the movement of many band members and concertgoers unsafe.
