Favermans is the “bravest movie” Steven Spielberg has ever made, said the film’s producer.
Christy Makosko Krieger said the semi-autobiographical film was the story the Oscar-winning director was always trying to tell, but he “consciously” didn’t know it.
The pair have worked together for 26 years on films like Ready Player One, West Side Story, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Starring Gabrielle Lovell, Michelle Williams and Paul Dano, The Fabermans has already won multiple awards this season.
Last week, it won Best Picture at the Golden Globes, and Spielberg himself won Best Director.
Speaking to PA news agency at the London premiere of the film, Makosko Krieger said:
“I think Steven was going to make this movie his whole life, but he didn’t really know.
“I’ve worked with him for 26 years and got to be a part of this particular film that honors his mother and father and his family in a really special way. People I know and the people I love.
When asked if Spielberg was destined to make the film, she continued: young boy.
“I think it’s the bravest movie he’s ever made.
“I think he’s a very private person, but this is kind of like putting your heart out there and letting people see it and examine it.
“Hopefully people will feel really good about what he did.”
Fabelmans earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for outstanding performance by the film’s cast.
Spielberg also continued his award-season rivalry with Martin McDonagh, both of whom were nominated for Outstanding Director for a Feature Film in 2022 by the Directors Guild of America (DGA).
The film is also being talked about with a nod at the Oscar nominations, which will be announced next week on January 24th.
