Even though we sat outside, doublet’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection put a smile on our faces. Debuting as part of his Paris fashion week, Masayuki Ino is candid and hilarious with his mice voguing, fluffy bunny costumes, and models walking with a sense of urgency (or maybe it was -1 degrees). Invited attendees to the world.
Alas, this was the doublet at its best: it presented a garment that wasn’t taken too seriously and had serious attention to detail. Others, however, were completely wrapped in herringbone check coats with lapels pushed down to the navel.
But of course, it was the wilder scene that stole the show. Crafted skirts contrasted with fleece joggers and lime green crocodile scales, and a rippling ruffled sweater with waves on the arms. , and Bigfoot levels in shaggy sweatpants all came along the runway pavement.
Underfoot are shaggy Vans slip-ons that take the iconic model and subside the checkerboard print with patches of black and white or pink and black faux fur. The Monster Mash followed the Suicoke footwear collaboration which saw flats with Vibram sole units, strappy tops and fur inners.
Reflecting the fun included jeans that sported stuffed paws sticking out of the buttocks, sweaters that let you flip your head and pretend to be a bear, and neon green t-shirts that inflate.
