Climbers Club welcomes local celebrity chefs

Twinkling holiday lights and perfect weather welcomed guests to the elegant home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Estes for Climbers Club Guest Night on December 8, 2022. A festive table of sumptuous holiday dishes was set in the dining room. Guests reveled in the classical music of the University of Southern Mississippi string trio, and the party flowed out onto the backyard patio.
The Climbers Club meeting on January 12, 2023 was held at the lovely home of Mrs. Michael Said. Celebrity chef Katie Dixon was the afternoon speaker. Katie told the club the funny story of her journey that led to the exciting career she is currently enjoying.
Katie grew up in Brookhaven, the daughter of Henry and Vicky Newman. She is a graduate of Brookhaven Academy. She now lives in Hattiesburg with her family and is the owner and head chef of Birdhouse Cafe. Opening in 2017, her Katie’s wish was to “create an environment where everyone feels loved, nourished and inspired.” At her cafĂ© at Birdhouse, she offers a variety of power her foods, from acai bowls and salads to traditional southern healthy fare. Katie also offers a full-service meal preparation program, her menu of healthy treats, private her dining, her event catering, and cooking classes.
Additionally, Katie is a spokesperson for the MS UProot campaign. The campaign aims to “build a healthier Mississippi from the ground up.” She won Pine Belt’s Best Chef in her 2017, and Pine’s Belt’s Best Personality and Best New Her Restaurant in 2018. Mississippians and fans across the country are remembered for rooting for Katie, who became a finalist for her star on Season 7 of Masterchef and Food Her Network. Season 14.
In addition to expanding her restaurant concept to other locations, Katie recently published her first cookbook, Be Nourished. It’s “for readers looking for plant-based recipes made from easy-to-find ingredients”. Did.
