After the tragic passing of Cher’s mother in December 2022, it seems that concerns about the 76-year-old’s super-celebrity status have begun to circulate. Confused by the news that Cher’s mother, actress and singer Georgia Holt passed away, especially YouTube titled “5 minutes ago/Keep praying for Cher! She was diagnosed with this serious illness…” When I came across the video,
The video was misleadingly titled and may have confused many, but Cher’s death was not reported. Instead, it consists of many photographs of Cher and digitally generated audio that recites various biographical aspects of her life and speculations about her health.
Cher has had a prolific and culturally significant music career, winning an Academy Award in 1988 for the film Moonstruck. No doubt she would be the subject of much news coverage from legitimate sources if she died, but there is no such story at the time of this writing. This isn’t the first time she’s been the subject.In 2012, similar rumors circulated about her.
Other celebrities who have been targeted by similar hoaxes include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Eddie Murphy.
