The Upper Canada Mall and its partners will kick off the Year of the Rabbit on Saturday, January 14th from 11am to 4pm.
With interactive booths, music, dancing and fashion shows, you can celebrate Lunar New Year at the Upper Canada Mall on Saturday, January 14th.
Hosted by the Chinese Alliance Church of North Toronto, Hillcrest Mall, Upper Canada, the event takes place from 11am to 4pm on Center Court at Newmarket Mall.
Eight interactive booths host activities celebrating the traditions of the Chinese New Year. This includes Year of the Rabbit balloon twists, face painting, Polaroid photo fun, and DIY lanterns that are hung to symbolize happiness and good luck.
Other booths include Huai Chung, a traditional decoration applied to doorways for good luck and prosperity, and the Lantern Festival held on the 15th of the first month of the lunar calendar to honor deceased ancestors. There is a lantern mystery booth.
The candy box booth will offer special red boxes containing green pomegranate, dark seed, red seed, white milk and golden chocolate candies to represent togetherness, joy and good luck.
In the afternoon, there will be Chinese New Year music, drum dance, and Year of the Rabbit fashion show from 1-1:30pm, and lion dances, Chinese instruments, nursery rhymes, and other music from 3-3:30pm. It is done.
