Ashley McBryde’s acclaimed album Lindeville takes country music fans to a fictional town. And now she’s taken her vision to new heights.
The singer-songwriter recently released a playful music video for the track “Brenda Put Your Bra On,” featuring Kaley Hammack and Pillbox Patty. McBride co-wrote ironic songs with Aaron Lightiere, Nicolette Hayford, Benji Davis, Brandy Clarke and Connie Harrington.
The radio-ready song tells a compelling story about a friend who is intrigued by a commotion he hears in his neighborhood. Some demand that “Brenda” must “put on a bra” to get the inside scoop or peruse the madness from the front porch.
“Brenda, put on your bra, there’s trouble next door | Grab a pack of cigarettes, let’s meet on the porch | Marvin baby mama is a whore trying to catch him | Brenda, put on your bra ‘ sings McBride. “I knew I couldn’t let that bitch see my baby. I used to work with her at Krystal. Always a good shift in theme just because she has good boobs.” We’re getting | and cutting her shirt down the middle,” adds Patty.
The music video perfectly tells the juicy story as it takes place in a run-down trailer park.ACM Award-winning director Reid Long captures the trio as they help a meddling fictional character get revenge. When Patty quits smoking, Hammack gives him a baseball bat and McBride gives him gasoline.
Produced by John Osborne, the track shows some personality as each musician uses their signature sound to represent the different inhabitants of the twisted town. Hammack’s Southern croak shines through as Patty’s cheeky way of singing complements McBride’s wide vocal range. Their cutting-edge acting takes the frantic clip to the next level and feeds on the background craziness involving an angry ex-boyfriend, the police, and a woman who knows her worth.
“As soon as we recorded the song, I knew I wanted to make a video for it,” recalls McBryde. “It’s the beginning of the action in Lindevil. There were many ways to shoot the video, but Reid came up with the idea of capturing all the madness and drama in one continuous take. I feel very much in tune with the spirit of.What a Lindeville!”
McBryde’s 13-song tracklist, which includes fan favorites “The Girl In The Picture,” “Jesus Jenny,” and “Gospel Night At The Strip Club,” was nominated for GRAMMY’s Best Country Album. McBride’s name has been included in her three honorable categories: 2018’s ‘Girl Going Nowhere’, 2020’s ‘Never Will’ and ‘Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville’. The member of the Grand Ole Opry is also nominated for her No. 1 duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl.”
On February 15th and 16th, this powerhouse will bring a balanced album to Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium. McBryde invited friends and longtime collaborators in the industry to play the “Lindeville” track. Tickets can be purchased here.
