“Top Gun: Maverick” won Best Picture at AARP’s Adult Film Awards on Saturday.
“I’ve made over 50 movies and over 2,000 hours of TV shows, and there’s one question that everyone keeps asking: Will there be another Top Gun?” ‘s producer Jerry Bruckheimer said. “After almost 40 years, all the pieces are in place to finally release the long-awaited sequel at a time that everyone seemed to need it most.”
“Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann was awarded Best Director by the film’s star, Austin Butler, and the biopic was also recognized in the Best Time Capsule category. ‘The Old Man’, which was renewed for a second season in June 2022, was a similar success, winning Best Television Actor for lead actor Jeff Bridges. The show did well overall and even earned a nod in the best TV series category.
A grown-up movie hosted by Alan Cumming was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Jamie Lee Curtis received the Career Achievement Award presented by Brian Tyree Henry.
The awards will be broadcast nationally by Great Performances on PBS, pbs.org/moviesforgrownups and the PBS Video app on February 17 at 9:00 pm PT/8:00 pm CT.
