Thankfully, you don’t have to travel far to hear great music with Marin. From Marine Symphony’s latest national program to Danny Crick and Hell Yards, here are five intriguing music shows.

Marin Symphony has never been afraid to present classical music in new and exciting ways. The next performance “Masterworks 2” is no exception. Featuring the Grammy-nominated group Time For Three and describing themselves as a “classically trained garage band,” Masterworks 2 will air Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Sometimes held at the Marine Veterans Memorial Auditorium at 10 Avenue of the Flags. in San Rafael. The band will perform Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Putt’s “Contact” and other favorites.
Led by conductor Alasdair Neal, the Marin Symphony National Program also features Florence Price’s “American Shadows in Ethiopia” and Copland’s “Appalachian Spring.”

Renegade Rock
With “the beauty of symphony and the soul of a rock band,” the Renegade Orchestra will perform at 7:30 PM on Friday at Rancho Nicasio, 1 Old Rancheria Road, Nicasio. His 20-piece orchestra, which includes Novato cellist Rebecca Loudman on Dirty Cello, plays everything from The Rolling Stones to Nina His Simon, and changes the orchestral landscape forever.
In a press release, conductor Jason Eckle said: “Imagine the skill of these incredible string players unleashed on everyone’s favorite rock-his song.”

When San Rafael singer-songwriter and guitarist Danny Crick moved to Marin from Austin, Texas in the mid-2000s, it didn’t take long for him to become a mainstay of Marin’s music scene. We jammed with Elvin Bishop of Marin and former Marin resident Carlos Santana. At his Thursday show at Fairfax’s former Sleeping Lady, fans lined up outside the door an hour before show time.
Over the years, he and his band Hell Yards! have opened for Cake, Robert Plant and Mavis Staples.

cosmic rocker
Deadheads recalls Jerry Garcia’s longtime musical partner, David Nelson, who began in the 1960s with a bluegrass band called the Wildwood Boys. From there he became a member of the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band and played on his three Grateful Dead albums, ‘Aoxomoxoa’, ‘Workingman’s Dead’ and ‘American Beauty’.
Come hear Nelson, founding member of cosmic rock and roll group New Riders of the Purple Sage, perform at HopMonk Tavern at 224 Vintage Way in Novato on February 10th at 8pm. Marin’s classical music fans were disappointed a few years ago when Trio Conbrio Copenhagen had to cancel performances at Mill Valley due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the show must go on—and yes! The trio, featuring Korean sisters, violinist Sujin Hong and cellist Sukyung Hong, and pianist Jens Elbegjaer, will perform Brahms, Ravel and Danish composer Per Nergaard as part of the 50th edition of Chamber Music Marin. will play the new work “Spell”. A chamber music concert on February 12 at 5:00 pm at the Mount Tamalpais United Methodist Church at 410 Sycamore Avenue in Mill Valley during his season of the series.
