DUBAI: The search for the young singer who captivated everyone at Karol Savam 40 years ago has come to a happy conclusion in Dubai.
Mohan Lawrence Simon won the Best Light Music (Boys) Award at Karol Savam State School in Thrissur in 1978. Renowned singer KS Chisla was one of those who encouraged him to return to music after his singing talent was recently discovered in Dubai.
Mohan is currently the group leader of Al Quoz’s company. Mohan, he says, has never had time to pursue music in his busy professional life.
The search for Mohan intensified after Malayala Manorama published a news report about a Facebook post shared by music researcher Ravi Menon.

Mohan pursued his interest in music until completing his degree at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. During that time, he even trained under V Dakshinamoorthy, then after graduating from his college at Maharajaz in Ernakulam, he left for Oman with his father VV Shimon. After that he arrived in Dubai. Mohan’s mother, Dr. Sheela Sarada, is the first female doctor in Fort His Kochi.
The song “Omanapoonkuyile padamoo…” written by his parents won first prize in 1978 at Kalolsavam, Ernakulam district. Karol Savam. He composed music with his father.
“My mother wanted me to be a singer and an actor. It will be seven years on Monday since she passed away. For my mother’s blessing, maybe everyone is asking about me now.” hmm,” he said.
While studying at Thundale RC School, teacher PM Jose discovered the singer in Mohan. 44 years later, Mohan and Jose spoke on the phone on Friday.
Mohan’s wife Sharmila and children Akash and Anjali live in Kacheripadi, Kochi.
